John Elgy : With my old (very old) film camera I always over exposed skiing shots by a stop or two and this gave the snow a more enticing colour, white as opposed to grey But presumably you lost that lovely deep blue of the sky so typical (and IMHO attractive) of ski photos. Digital cameras do not like water and the condensation if you bring the cold camera into a warm high humidity environment may cause damage. A plastic bag keeps the camera in a low humidity environment until it has warmed up to room temperature. [snip] To prolong battery life keep the camera (as much as possible) and the spare batteries warm (inside your coat) and switch off the LCD screen. This year I used a Olympus mju digital (4Mp) for both my 2 week ski-touring holiday in March/April and also my 3 week summer alpine walking and climbing holiday in July. It performed very well under all types of weather conditions. It has the advantage of being weather proofed so it doesn't suffer from the condensation problems you mention above. As far as battery life was concerned I carried one spare, but found that with appropriate disabling of the flash and switching off the LCD screen except where needed for macro shots, I was getting about 120 shots per full charge.
