Default XC ski injuries... hams, delts...?

I might as well pile it on with the XC ski injuries.

First, my hams act up. Not my lower back, thank goodness.

Also, I notice that my deltoids get strangely weak during ski season.
I can pole just fine. But taking a t-shirt off overhead is another
question. My brother, who skis, reports a similar glitch. Only he says
his delts hurt. Mine just are weak when overhead. Funny.

Are most of these types of problems just a matter of imbalance?

Would overhead military presses help this delt ailment? (I do these in
the summer, but not in winter.)

I had problems last year, just before the pitiful ski season started
with my shoulder area. It was a bit painful in certain positions, but
like you ok for poling, bad in a lot of overhead lifts. Seemed to be
kind of classic rotator cuff symptoms. I mentioned to my Doc during a
physical in last September , but it was just annoying then so he didn't
do anything. 2-3 months later it became the searing agony kind if I
lifted the arm suddenly, or twisted in just the wrong position. I could
not get it to heal until I stopped doing push ups (which probably is not
coincidental, but was my major arm and shoulder exercise). I started
doing the rotator cuff exercises and slowly it is better so it only
hurts a little now and then. I am playing with a push up gadget from
Herrington that lets your hands rotate as you push up/down, which is
supposed to prevent stress on the shoulder. So far so good (the product
name is Perfect Push up).
