early April: Champoluc or Val Thorens

I am looking to book a long weekend in early April and was wondering
what my best bet would be destination

Obviously Val Thorens would be the safe bet but I've been a bit taken
aback by the prices being asked for apartments from initial enquiries.

I've been intrigued by what Monterosa has to offer and was therefore
wondering what the conditions would be like come early April.

Any other recommendations on where to stay / eat etc would be welcome.

Given that Easter is in late March I'd say wait and see. It'll be quiet
in April so you can book last minute and go where the snow is and maybe
get a better deal on the accomodation.
