Canada Dec/Jan 09/10

Hi,

Been years since I posted here, mainly because of the weirdness that I
fear still prevails somewhere here.

Anyway, I'm getting married in December and we're heading to Canada
for 5 weeks for our honeymoon. We arrive in Calgary on 18 December,
shake off the flight (from Melbourne, Australia) for a couple of days,
then we head to Banff for 2 nights, and to the Chateau at Lake Louise
from 23 Dec-27 Dec for a White Xmas (something we've never had before
and something the wife to be has always dreamt of). Following that we
spend a week in Banff.

After that we self drive our way from Banff to Vancouver. No plans, no
bookings, with the exception of chasing the best snow.

Now, with all things being equal, what recommendations can you offer
as to places we should put on the preferred list?

Skiing Ability: I can hold my own, at least so far. I do like on-
piste, but get a real thrill out of skiing the snow that keeps you on-
track but the trees or pitch that brings you closer to your maker. The
fiancée is not at that level but is getting better all the time. She
has skied a growing number of blacks in Australia and even a couple of
double blacks. It's sheet ice she doesn't like.

ALSO, other than skiing, what other events, sights, things to do etc,
can you recommend?

I'd love to see an Ice Hockey match, and have been told to not bother
seeing an NHL match, but to see a match from the next level of
competition down, more spills n thrills and excitement. Can anyone
give me more tips on this?

Bad idea. NHL hockey is the best hockey in the world. While in
Canada you can probably see one on TV every night. Watch a couple of
games then go to one yourself. Root for the Red Wings, they are the
best team in the NHL.
