i don't understand what yor are worried about;

from the link tou posted:

Biometric Information Earlier US legislation required that UK passports
issued on or after 26th October 2004 must contain biometric identifiers.
However new legislation has now been passed by both Congress and Senate to
delay introduction of this requirement until October 26th 2005 and this now
only awaits final sign off by President Bush. In any event, non-biometric
passports issued prior to this date, will still be accepted for visa free
travel.

Glad somebody else took the time to post this, as I was sure it was
the case but couldn't be bothered to dig for it.

That is correct. Only from 26th october 2004, passengers travelling on
a visa waiver (most EU) will have their photograph and fingerprints
taken upon entry, just as already the case for people with visa now.

This whole USA visa requirements affair appears to be full of rumor. At
one point I heard that not every UK citizen will be given visa exemption
and that, for example, certain professions would require a visa. One of
the professions mentioned was lecturer. Guess what it says on my
passport? I have also heard that you must go in person to the consulate
to get this visa and there are only 2 of these in the UK.

Can somone point me to the definative web site?

Maybe a little bit of hassle from England but flying to the States from
Dublin by Aer Lingus makes the whole transatlantic thing much easier. US
customs is at our end, it's relaxed and informal, one finger on a scanner,
two questions and away. It's a lot better than getting all the way over and
then finding there is a problem.
AL offer an excellent service BTW, best business class for a while.

If you are going to go to Canada it will work out much cheaper to go with a
tour company like Inghams.. they have trips including flights, transfers and
a weeks accomodation in Banff starting at around 370 pounds. You'd be crazy
to organise it yourself.

We'd absolutely love to: would you like to volunteer to help Air Canada
with their UKP 450 (at best - midweek, low season) Calgary fare and their
definition of the terms "favourable", "exchange", and "rate"?

I'd heartily recommend Frontier Ski for Canadian skiing trips -
they're real specialists in this market and I've used them a couple of
times. They also do a Ski Club discount, which is noce...
