The difference swing weight makes
I've been raking leaves a lot lately. The other day I tried a new rake.
It doesn't seem any heavier but it grabs the grass a little deeper. I was shocked at how quickly I got exhausted using it. I really couldn't use it. However it is different that difference makes it UNUSABLE. And it's a small difference. I'd think I could just adapt, slow my tempo and, sheesh, keep raking. But I'd go under using that thing, well, my muscles would fatigue to uselessness. It wasn't fun either. The swing all messed up. Anyway it's amazing how such a small diff in swing weight wrecks the effort entirely. I suspect our available work-energy is just really quite small and HUGELY rhythm dependent. It seems like I need perceptive effortlessness to keep the ball rolling. If I have that, then I can rake a yard in a jiffy. Without it, I just can't rake. -- Jeff Potter **** *Out Your Backdoor * http://www.outyourbackdoor.com publisher of outdoor/indoor do-it-yourself culture... ...offering "small world" views on bikes, bows, books, movies... ...rare books on ski, bike, boat culture, plus a Gulf Coast thriller about smalltown smuggling ... more radical novels coming up! ...original downloadable music ... and articles galore! plus national "Off the Beaten Path" travel forums!
