Default ELAN SCX - Anybody still using them??

I have been skiing on the older straight skis and now would like to get
some shaped skis. I am an intermediate skier and like cruising blue
diamond runs I have the opportunity to get a pair of Elan SCX
Monoblocks. I did some research on the Internet and found that they
were great skis and the ski of the year in the late 90s. I would like
to know if anyone has used these skis and how good are they when
compared to todays skis (not high performance but basic entry level
skis)

I know skis have advanced a lot in the last 5 - 10 years.
Would these skis give good performance as compared to todays rental
skis?
or
Are they outdated and not work considering.
They have a wood core vs composite for todays. They come with Salomon
897 bindings.
They are in good shape with very few scratches and no delamination.
They are 183 cm - I am 6' 0" and 160 lbs. I think these skis are
slightly longer than what would be ideal. Does that mean they would be
harder to ski on?

Thanks for any advice on this.
Rick

Probably about the same as the garden variety rentals you'll find today.
Actually, you'll still find those skis at some rental counters.

They're certainly "better" than what you're skiing on now. If you're
looking to upgrade on the cheap they're a viable option and better than
spending another season on your old dinosaurs.

Wood core is good. Many good skis are still made with wood cores. The
wood may be laminated with high tech composite materials, but it's still
wood.

Probably OK. Make sure it's on this list or no shop will touch them:

The trend is to shorter skis, but compared to your current skis these
should be *much much* easier to ski on, even at 183. If you can pick
them up for a song (say 50 bucks) go for it - you'll be taking a giant
step forward in terms of gear.
