Default I named him Dave...

....a bull wapiti (Rocky Mountain Elk).

GENUS & SPECIES: Cervus canadensis.

I took this shot of "Dave" in Yellowstone National Park on 25 July
2004.

"Dave" was strolling along the road, and the shot was taken through
the windshield of my automobile (hence the technically poor quality of
the pic).

It appears that Dave still has a yellow patient #17 identification tag
(from the mental institution) affixed to his left ear:

I really, really hope that I'm the Dave that partially inspired the name.

Astro, you take some incredible pictures! Thanks for posting them. As
for the "poor quality" of the picture, you can actually see the bristles
of the fuzz on the antlers!

I think the #17 indicates the number of antler points Dave would stick ya
with if you got too close.
