I haven't been there, but its on my list. I know people who have been, but not recently. Its a couple of hours drive north of Prince George, a city of about 90,000. After you leave PG there are a few small communities along the way, but heavy on the small. I am told: It snows a lot. There is a lift It snows a lot There is primitive accommodation for a couple dozen people near the base. It snows a lot Its not big, but what terrain there is is not bad. Apparently, it snows a lot. If I went, it would be late Jan or after. Its latitude is not much south of the Alaska panhandle. |

PowderKing has a hostel on the hill. It is primitive but PK is all about
the snow. Bring your sleeping bag and you get a room for about $20 a night. There is a restaurant on the hill (do not expect vegan/sushi/exotic) that is good and cheap. The highway 97 to PK is modern, not too busy, and well plowed and sanded. It is about 10 hours north of Vancouver, and about 2 hours north of Prince George, the biggest city in the area. It is smack in the middle of BC by a town called Mackenzie. It starts to get dark at 4pm in January, is not in the middle of West Bum**** Canada, and is easily the best small hill in North America. |
