Oh No Lets not.
I've only ever met one speed skier and he was insane by any definition.
He'd fallen at speed and slid the length of the chute on the right hand side of his body.
His suit burned off and his skin ripped off from his knee to his elbow. He survived that.
He didnt survive his sky dive in the Australian desert with an untried parachute of his own design.

That activity is about as far removed from our sport as one can imagine.

Wouldn't mind a biathlon group.

A rollerski group for me, to suck loads of info from.
It's hard to find any rollerski info updated after 2003. websites all seem
20th century, tiny pics. Let alone an on-topic forum. I even tried to find
something in German, but everyone seems to use another word for it, hard to
find stuf that way.
Same for XC Skiing. How can the Vasaloppet alone attract 16,000 nutcases to
take part, and only this newsgroup to be actively used, world-wide? Or is
all the good coverage in Nordic languages?

Yes, actually, rollerski group would be excellent. Especially since the
temperature is rising.

Let's NOT start a new rollerski group. rec.ski.nordic works fine for
rollerskiing. Come summer when posts are fewer, it is nice to have
rollerskiing posts on this group. It is all part of fitness/race
skiing.

Ski Exuberantly,

Hank

Mammoth Lakes, California

(Snowing as I type. Season total 43 feet = 13 meters. I'm looking
forward to no snow and doing some biking and hiking and rollerskiing.)

You may have a point. Rec.skiing.backcountry only gets about a dozen posts
at a time, and I'm afraid a similar fate awaits another small group.

Although, I do propose we start a group devoted entirely to discussing Ella
Gjomle's new full body race suit. Red = fast.

This does mean that I'll be needing a link for picture of that suit!

Oh, and that i'll be bugging y'all with very geeky rolleski questions and
ideas.

I'm designing some for myself as I find retail and shipping overly
expensive, product options limiting. Frames are simple beams with holes cut
and drilled into them, a bit simple for larger (air)wheeled ones, but wheels
are very cheap if you shop.
I may even build a set from a basic frame, old rollerblade wheels, and a
very cheezy icehockey boot. Such a bad plan, it just might work... But
before you'll complain : I do plan to buy Pilot bindings and boots.

For one approach to homemade rollerskis, see
