I really miss the Oshman's Labor Day Ski Sales in the San Diego Sports
Arena. *It served as an indicator of the new season,a chance to pick
some bargains and upgrade/replace the toolkit, and a warning to start
getting serious about getting into slope-ready condition.

That being said, I need BOOTS! *I am open to suggestions for good
sources of discount new or used boots in Souther California, and I
will be in the Davis/Sacramento area a few times before the snow
falls.

I've got some pretty good deals on skis.com in the past. *Of course
ordering online is against what everybody here will tell you but the
last pair of boots I bought are probably the most comfortable I've
ever worn right out of the box. *Besides, if I ever did have problems
there are plenty of great bootfiters around here.

Boots are still something I insist on trying on in person first...but
I've ordered my last 3 pairs of skis online, and saved a ****load of $$
$ in the process.

I finally got a pair of the Dynastar 8800 Legends. *Not a bad ski at
all, but noticably heavier then my previous dutiful use of Salomons.
I'll never ski anything else again.

Ditto, I could not order online or via a catalog, too much variation
from manufacturer to manufacturer. Tecnica fits me best, not sure why

Thinking back on it, I have only bought three pairs of boots in my
life. I survived with hand-me-downs from my mother and from ski
swaps until I got to California in 1970 and bought a pair of Lange
foam-fit boots. When their inner linings cracked about 1981, I bought
a pair of Trappeurs that were the warmest and most comfortable (no
blisters anywhere) that I ever had. When those cracked around the
ankle flex, I bought Tecnicas in 1994 or so, which lasted until last
season's delamination.

I dont know if I will live long enough to get 12-15 years use out of a
new pair.

You have duck feet, like me. I can also wear Nordicas. Langes are
designed for people with pods instead of feet.

Nordica works good for me too. Wide forefoot, high arch, narrow heel.
But then again I have friends that also happen to be boot fitters and
own boot fitting shops. That helps. They could probably get my Teva's
to work for me !

As are the pppppuuuusssssiiiiieeeeesssss of rsa. Since they couldn't
arrange a cop to protect them, Brain Fried Bob Thompson and Yabapussy
spent the day hiding out, praying they wouldn't run into the hunters.

The Exchange on River Road in Truckee has lots of consignment boots -
worth a visit if you're passing through.

My wife's MB GPS and google maps both say there are two River Roads in
Truckee.

Found Sports Exchange down the block form the diner. Scored a well-
used pair of Nordicas from the attic. My wife bought herself a pair
of new Saloman casual walking shoes, and she bought me a $10 shirt
from the sale rack. The sales clerk almost gave us everything for
$49, but he caught his error and redid the credit card invoice.

Then we went over the Northstar road and around the lake to SLT. We
ate lunch in Harrah's 18th-floor bufffet, and then we went down to the
casino where she won over $500 playing blackjack (I held up my end -
made $2 on quarter video poker slots).

Hope your new Nordicas aren't so old as to be Exploding Nordicas; but
that was a long time ago, so probably not to worry.

I like that store - eclectic collection of stuff...

Now that I have the boots home, I can't figure out why I said they are
Nordicas. They are Salomon Xwave 9s. There is nothing on them that
says "Nordica", unless I was fooled by the "Salomon" logo on the top
strap that is worn out to read blob NO blob when held upside down.
