Composite Shafts Versus Aluminum
Has anyone noticed a significant difference in dampening when using
composite versus aluminum roller ski shafts. Been looking at the Jenex and Swenor skate models. |

The question is about rollerski shafts, it seems. On the best
pavement, the difference will take a long workout to show, and it may not be great, depending on your tolerance. As the pavement quality deteriorates into the typical range, the difference moves up in time. I've used Jenex aluminum and Marwe composite, and the latter dampens vibration considerably better. Have the Swenors improved their wheel wear? If I go with the Jenex or the Swenor composite models I'll eventually replace the worn out wheels with www.therollerskishop.com 24mm x 100mm wheels. I don't know how they get the price down so low but these wheels are outstanding for dependability, ride quality, and wear. For example the complete wheel from Roller Ski Shop is $15, while the Swenor replacement wheel from the US Dealer is $45 each. |

I have a set of V2 classic's and have the same complaint - way too much road shock and vibration transmitted to my feet and legs. My Aero 125's likely transmit shock also, but the shaft seems softer and of course, the large diameter inflatable wheels soak up a lot of shock. RS poles? I'll never use aluminum poles again, I get almost instant elbow pain from the shock of impact. The stock wheel came with a flat profile that I couldn't find in a 78mm diameter. The wheels with that profile are all small diameter for aggressive skates. I settled on a set of roller hockey wheels as the softest, flattest profile wheels I was likely to get. As an experiment I tried a set of regular elliptical inline skate wheels. They were noticeably less stable. I saw Dale Niggeman later and asked him about replacement wheels. Tough luck for me, can't get them anymore. Turns out the hockey wheels were a good 2nd choice. The replacement will no doubt quickly wear down to a flat profile anyway. Bob Schwartz |

I have been using the new composite V2 skis with the stiff flex, they
are really nice. I do notice the reduced road vibration and little extra bounce. I swapped the worthless wheels for some rollerski shop wheels, I had the "slow" speed, but they were a little too slow, the medium or medium and slow combo seems like a good way to go. You have to fuss with the adjuster on the v2's to get them to track right, it's kind of a pain in the neck. |

How come nobody much uses the usenet groups any more? Where did everyone go, something like facebook? This used to be a pretty lively group.
