We just got back yesterday from ten days up there. It was about what
you'd expect this time of year. Generally firm on top in the morning
with "springlikeslushy" snow on the bottom. We did get a little storm
track and had really nice snow on top (I hesitate to call it powder --
Spring Powder?) for a couple of days even getting about 25 cm over
Wednesday into Thursday but even that firmed up by noon except in places
like Blackcomb Glacier and the Whistler Colouir/Cirque and it stayed
better on Horstman and any other more northerly facing slope. The
coverage is good on top but is geting thinner every day the spine in
Colouir Extreme is plainly visible as are the rocks at the top of 7th.
(If you ski in Colouir Extreme, watch for buried ave debris under the
new snow especially near the bottom. My buddy broke his ankle hitting
some -- *on the ski out and at speed* ouch!) The bottom is the usual
mess of terminal beginners trying not to fall in ankle deep slush and is
much to be avoided if possible (IMHO). Especially in the troughs of the
bumbs in places off lower 7th Heaven or off the Glacier Chair, there are
rocks and general edge rippers hidden under the daily skiff of new so I
would approach those with caution for at least the first run. Still
really good (as of Friday) in Harmony bowl and even Whistler bowl 'til
about Shale Slope (best to cross over to Peak Chair there as the lower
parts there are pretty sketchy) I didn't see any rocks on those. Harmony
didn't have many bad runs at all and was good coverage all the way down
through McConkey's to the chair so you could ski any of (even the) lower
runs with confidence that you weren't going to hit any rippers.

Bring your sunscreen, get on the first chair (the lines at Blackcomb
daylodge were the shortest and if you are there by 8:10ish, you can be
on the first ten chairs), be prepared to quit early and have a beer (I
have suggestions for that too -- , and enjoy the spring skiing.
