Skins are one thing I wouldn't skimp on. There is nothing more
miserable than sliding backward with a 50 lb pack on your back. :-(((. Really. Most folks I know that use kicker skins use them for day trips, especially if they are doing repeat trips up and down for turns. My previous set of skins were the 3/4 length with the mechanical attachment, and those worked great, but I don't think I'd trust kicker skins with a big pack on my back. Your set up sounds like it will work great otherwise. I think you can rent skins if you have to? Which huts are you doing? There is quite a variation in the difficulty of the approaches, and the terrain between huts if you are doing a multi day hut to hut. Tracy Lorraine Smith (Ben Bly) wrote in message . com... Thank you for those very helpful replies! After trying Karhu Sirius and a couple of other boots I am going with Garmont Excursions, Fischer outtabounds skis (waxless) and voile 3-pin bindings with an optional cable attachment. I am currently planning to bring my kicker skins but no full length skins. Bad plan? Ben |
