Backpacking in the Sierras
Hello,
This winter I'm planning on heading up to Tuolumne Meadows in the sierra where I'll be camping or staying in the ski hut for a week or two. I'm curious about recommendations for skis and bindings and I'd love to hear opinions of anyone else who is familiar with this area or this type of snow. It's a long slog uphill if I go from the east side, but once I'm up there it's pretty much just rolling hills. There are some amazing peaks to bomb down, but since I'm new to this I probably won't be doing much of that. Unless I'm with a knowledgeable friend. There are so many types of skis for different types of snow that it's difficult to make a choice. My main areas of concern are stability and going downhill. When I say I want to go downhill, I don't mean I want to race down mountains, I just want to be able to ski down slopes I come to without fear. And there is also the issue of skiing down Tioga Pass at the end of the trip. Any thoughts, ideas or stories would be helpful. Thanks in advance. |
