Colorado: Avalanache Jam/Fund Raiser - Sept 10th
Bluegrass Returns to Popular Avalanche Jam Fundraiser
The third annual Avalanche Jam , hosted by Backcountry Access (BCA), will take place from 5 to 10 pm on Friday, Sept. 10 outside the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colorado. Avalanche Jam is a fund raiser for the Boulder-based Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). This yearıs headlining band, Hit and Run, is a popular Colorado Bluegrass band with a vast national touring schedule. In addition to the music, the event will include dinner by Trappedaıs Gourmet Café, beer from New Belgium Brewery, an outdoor industry demo village and door prizes. Donors to the silent auction include BCA, Marmot, MSR, Lowe Alpine, Patagonia, Burton, Lowa and Black Diamond -* and the list is growing daily. Last yearıs second annual Avalanche Jam netted over $10,000 for the CAIC, which provides avalanche education and forecasting for Colorado backcountry users. Colorado is home to one of the largest backcountry recreational markets in North America. Coupled with the most dangerous snowpack in North America, the CAIC plays an integral role in daily trip planning for Colorado backcountry users so they can recreate safely. The CAIC is partially funded by the Colo. Dept. of Transportation, State of Colorado, The Colorado ski industry, and a non-profit fundraising entity called the Friends of the CAIC, comprised mainly of backcountry recreationists. "Not only is it great to have this new source of revenue, but itıs really great to know you have this kind of grassroots support," said CAIC director Knox Williams. He said Avalanche Jam funds will provide CAIC with the cushion it needs to improve its programs in the face of tightening budgets among its other supporters. For ticketing and sponsorship information, call BCA at (303) 417-1345 or see http://www.avalanchejam.com after July 15. |
