Default Jackets: HyVent, Gore-Tex XCR, Infusion designs

Jacket shopping after I lost my venerable TNF gore-tex wonder jacket
(dammit). If you've got one, year-round ski, bc-ski, mountaineer, winter
camp, storm jacket, has to be good with a heavy pack:

Is HyVent as good as Gore-Tex XCR? Just cheaper?

What about traditional expedition jackets like TNF Mountain Light (similar
to what I used to have) vs newer, lighter types like TNF Climb Flight
Infusion (criminy what a name) or Ama Dablam Infusion jackets. The pit zips
on the newer ones don't seem very airy?

Ski skirts don't work with heavy-packs do they?

I don't want zip-in liners, just a seriously good expedition quality shell
that will keep me dry and will breath.

Any recommendations?

Prices seem to be pretty much $300 US and up, any particular stores cheap if
you know what you want?

Jamie

Sierra Trading Post has various closeouts at really good pricing.

Also, look at store brand shells from REI, MEC, EMS, Bean, CampMor.

Happy trails,
