Waxing "waxless" skis?
I'm a Nordic newbie, and recently purchased a pair of Madshus Tyin waxless skis. Now I read that waxless skis really aren't, and they can, and should be waxed? Is this true? Lots of discussion on this last season. Try searching with Google groups for all the dirt. I used waxless classic skis exclusively this year due to time constraints. I used Swix aerosol F4 on the tips and tails ... it really helps. On wet, new snow, wax the scales with that to prevent icing ... otherwise don't wax the scales because it will affect your grip. I use regular hot wax and brush out the excess wax with a brass brush. This has the added benefit of adding structure to the no-wax base. This will work to a greater or lesser extent depending on whether the nowax section of your ski is sintered or extruded PTex. But even if you just use F4, put it on the scales as well. While nowax skis will never be quite as fast as waxable skis, most of them will work much better than you might expect with a little preperation. _ Booker C. Tips and tails need to be waxed for glide. "waxless" refers to using the base pattern rather than grip wax for grip.
