Default Lots of snow.....but no skis!

Up at Lake Louise for the weekend - about 6 inches (that's about 100
cm or so, I think) of sloppy crap fell last night and they're calling
for more tonight. Of course, my skis (and rollerskis, for that
matter) are at home and the rental shops aren't open yet. At least I
can go hiking in my running shoes.....not.

There's a heck of a difference between 6" and 100 cm. 100 cm is 39 inches
and they would be setting track.

If you're at the Chateau, drop in and say "Hi" to my daughter Tara at the
Scallywags boutique on the lower level.

Yeah, I know - I was trying to be the ignorant American who doesn't
understand the metric system and it looks like I succeeded.

Didn't run into your daughter, but chances are her store has some of
our money.

"The only thing I can't resist is temptation." -- Oscar Wilde

Oh, okay, so I couldn't resist! Here's my answer to the second question ...
2.55 min/mi (pretty fast skiing!)

We start with two givens:

1) 0.85 Euro/USD
(Approximate value today, per the Universal
Currency Converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi )
2) 30 min/Euro
(Based on 4 Euros per 2 hours.)

Now ... we want just one thing ... No, no, not that! I mean this:

Goal: 0.1 USD/mi
(Based on 1 USD/10mi, as specified in the
question.)

0.85 Euros per USD (see given #1 above) means we want

0.085 Euro/mi

30 minutes per Euro (see given #2 above) means we want

2.55 min/mile

Q.E.D. (that's Latin for "Voilá!")

1) Six thousand cubic meters of snow from 2002-2003 was
stored for the summer in Ruka, Finland. If the snow had
been formed into a cube and a roaming Yankee had seen it,
he would´ve exclaimed: "Hot dog! That thing is at least
___ feet high!"

Half of that snow was still intact in the beginning of
November, when it was used to build a loop of one kilo-
meter. Two hours of skiing costs four euros. To get ten
miles for one dollar one must be able to ski at a pace
of ___ minutes per mile.
