Default Avalanche Beacons Forsale

Friends are updating their avalanche beacons so I am making a posting
for them.

5 ea. PIEPS 457 "Opti-Finder" (457 kHz)
$150 (including shipping in the US).

3 ea. PIEPS-2 (2275 Hz-"old" frequency)
$55 each or $150 for all three (including shipping in the US).

2 ea. Ramer Echo-2 (2275 Hz-"old" frequency)
$55 each or $100 for both (including shipping in the US).

Most with the except of one missing case on the Pieps-2 come with
instructions and the case.

Note the old frequency beacons are not compatiable with the new
frequency but as long as everyone is onthe same frequency you are set.

Image of all beacon are available.

Contact me only at "a r s (at) a c m (dot) o r g" No spaces
Cheers,

Allen

Quite so: the first 20 minutes is the really important window. But you
might as well have an edge, and some people have survived many hours,
especially in relatively airy snow.

Quite so: the first 20 minutes is the really important window. But you
might as well have an edge, and some people have survived many hours,
especially in relatively airy snow.

Assuming no injuries from the avalanche itself, the odds of survival
if buried drop to 50/50 after 30 minutes, and drop from there.

Consistency of the snow is a key factor, but also the formation of an
"ice mask", formed by your warm exhaled air, which eventually makes
the surrounding snow impermeable to fresh air. The premise behind the
Avalung is to disperse the exhaled air and extend the time before the
ice mask forms

Hypothermia and some head injuries help by slowing the metabolism.

Many many cases where people on the scene went for help instead of
digging, and an easily found buried victim died from the time delay.
The people on the scene are the ones most likely to save you. Make
sure your group has multiple quality shovels.

Happy trails,

Which is why, if your buddy has a cheap plastic shovel and you've got a nice
aluminum one, you can look like a good guy by offering to swap.
