Default Travelling with skis

Recently there had been a query asking about any problems with taking
multiple pairs of skis on airlines.

I just finished a roundtrip on Northwest Airlines from Los Angeles to
Ottawa. I carried three pairs of skis and two sets of poles in one of those
hard-shell plastic "Sport Tubes." There were no problems with the airline.
And they kindly didn't break or lose anything!

In my suitcase, I had several ziplog bags of assorted waxes. I purposely
didn't take any base cleaner or solvents. While in Canada, I purchased a
small aerosol can of Swix Base Cleaner. I meant to just give it away at the
end of the week, but in my brain-dead condition at the end of the Keskinada,
I accidently packed it in the suitcase. When I arrived back home and was
unpacking my suitcase, I found a note from the airport security explaining
that they had removed the base cleaner from the luggage. I was impressed
that they checked that carefully to find it.

I had a great week of ski racing at the Canadian National Masters and the
Keskinada. A lot beautiful skiing (albeit a bit cold at times!) and
wonderful people there.

Any race report, Rick? Looks like you had a good 25k in slow conditions
at the Keskinada. Can't find any listing for the Canadian Masters.

The Canadian National Masters were hosted by the Onaping Nordics Ski Club.
Their website is http://www.personainternet.com/~tarlton/
Once there, you can click your way to the masters results.

This is a small club, but they did an outstanding job putting on the races.
Every race went off flawlessly. Plus they are a very friendly group and
made everyone feel at home. Even the award cermonies/banquets were held in
a spectacular lodge and were really fun affairs.

As far as my race reports, I had my best races when the conditions were
somewhat California Sierra-like (fresh powder, slightly below freezing.)
When the snow temp and air temps started getting down into the -15C to -25C,
these skiers took me to school! I have some things to learn about cold
weather waxing.

As I said before, it was a great week of racing and I would repeat it in a
heartbeat.
