Off-season close-out purchase : Atomic World Cup HARD any good?
Hi all,
Last March I got to ski on Fisher SCS Skatecuts 192 medium, (too soft) and 192 RCS stiff (oh so much better). I'm an SNS Pilot person because I have really nice boots for that. Now I'm shopping for off-season deals to get my first skis. Hard to find what I want in the longest size, stiff and for warmer conditions without paying full retail. I found an offer of : 193CM ATOMIC WORLD CUP SKATE HARD/W + Atomic Pilot Skate For ? 302,75 shipped. Atomic pricing seems to be quite a bit lower than fellow Austrians Fisher, or how to rate these top Atomics compared to the other brands and the RCS's I demoed and the top Fisher Carbonlites? I'll spend most my time on skis in Europe, just under freezing at best I'm afraid. Hoping to enter my first races the coming winter. I'm 83kg nekked on a fit day, may get a bit more "muscular" towards 88kg as I do more specific workouts. Powerful legs I suppose, being a good explosive climber on a mountainbike at national level, despite out-weighing all competition. I like the idea of having bindings professionally pre-mounted, hardly any professionals exist in my country. And it's cheaper to get them together. I'll likely end up a ski geek with many pairs of skis, but my current need is for fast racey ones that tell me what's being expected from me, and allow me to go fast when I actually get a couple stroke right. I'll also get cheaper ski's for bad conditions. Same shop offers the RACE SKATE 192CM + Atomic Pilot Skate for just over ?200 shipped, for instance. The SALOMON Equipe 9 193CM costs ?10 more. Please point me the right way, without telling me to get my dream skis (Carbonlites, and not for the weight) for ?450+. Just around ?300-350 is what I'm ready to spend right now, for top skis+bindings. Thanks in advance, J |

Off-season close-out purchase : Atomic World Cup HARD any good?
It gets a bit better : now another (also French) shop offers the same Atomic
World Cups, 193 Hard Warm, for EUR269 shipped, with the Pilot bindings. Too good to pass up? Same price goes for Fischer RCS Skating Plus 192 Stiff. I know these to be good for me, just I have the idea better can be had. Please, anyone know how these compare? Someone who has substantial help to offer I'll gladly help out with any MTB issue or question (s)he might have. I know a thing or 2 about that, frustrating to know so little about skis... Many thanks, J "Jan Gerrit Klok" schreef in bericht .. . Hi all, Last March I got to ski on Fisher SCS Skatecuts 192 medium, (too soft) and 192 RCS stiff (oh so much better). I've always skied on both Atomics and Fischers and frankly, the Fischer's leave me feeling underwhelmed. Conversely, the Atomics have always felt like the "right" ski. I had the same dilemma as you in the fall of 2006 and ended up getting the new Atomic World Cup's - just a few grams heavier than the Fischer Carbonlites (depending on whose numbers you read) and a much nicer feel. If you want to travel to the US, I'll give you a killer deal on a pair of freshly ground RCS's w/ Pilot bindings! - Bob |

But will it ever be much less than the EUR270/$350 I'll spend new now? Unfortunately, I've never been to the US. My employer is a US Corp though, so who knows, some day... But if you guys have the early November snow, I'll have a hard time staying away. It's good to read from someone who rates the Atomics higher than the Fischers. Then howcome do the Atomics seem to be lower prices? Marketing? Or are World Cup racers really using something more advance than what mere mortal can have shipped to them with bindings for EUR270? Are these WorldCups a top buy in any case? Should I not whine and just get the RCS's as well, and compare, then sell the lesser set? Thanks, J |
