Ski Jackets
Hi all ... new to the sport and group.
Looking for suggestions on a good jacket for xc skiing. And, if possible, a jacket that would work good for skiing and also winter bicycling (road riding). Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Mish |

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Mish Hi Mish, For nordic trail skiing, I use the Sporthill 3SP tops and pants that I find have a huge comfort range: http://www.sporthill.com/product.php...=2850&gender=m http://www.sporthill.com/product.php...=2100&gender=m (I have a 33 inseam and need their 'Long' pant) I usually use a base layer such as http://www.reliableracing.com/detail.cfm?edp=10133932 http://www.rei.com/product/785071 http://www.reliableracing.com/detail.cfm?edp=10422137 The fishnet underwear are great for regulating temperature. With the outer top zipped up the pockets trap warm air, unzipped they help cooler air circulate. Below freezing I usually wear a nylon vest to keep wind off my chest. When it gets really cold, like teens with wind or colder, I add a shell jacket. I recently bought this and like it as it has vents in the pits and back: http://www.sporthill.com/product.php...=3270&gender=m For an insulated jacket, this Marmot original Windshirt is a great product http://www.rei.com/product/746601 the insulation is very light, in fact too light to exist without a protective shell. I only use this when cross country skiing if it is butt cold or I will be standing around alot for some reason. This jacket is great for winter cycling and I don't go on an overnight tour without it. For backcountry skiing I use a more robust shell. |

I think you're asking for much, given how differently the upper body is used between the sports and how different and for how long the wind/speed exposure typically is. That said, I'd take a look at the Craft. Their mid weight jacket, now in roughly the $70-80 range I think, has done well for me for skiing. It was also used by many upper midwest ski programs as the official jacket when I lived there. For cycling, it's then a matter of adding more layers underneath. Gene |

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Mish Mish, I have had very good results using GORE Bike Wear's Tool Jacket for both fitness xc skate skiing, and cold weather road riding. It is now my outer garment of choice for both of those activities. http://www.gorebikewear.com/remote/S...1208436857421A It normally retails around $200, but if you do some google searching, and you are the right size it can be had for a bit less.
