Women - 0.9km+8.1km
Men - 1.9km+8.1km

I read that as 0.9 and 1.9km in flat or mildly rolling terrain, followed
by the 8.1km climb. I was wondering what mitigated against using
classical technique. Not that much time would be lost in the first part
and often climbs are faster in striding gear, even with a herringbone.
There'd be no tracks going up, but then the pitch is probably too steep
most of the way in any case. It'd be somewhat like one of those summer
hill races.

I'm sure looking forward to this event.
Remember last year, so many girls collapsed in exhaustion over the line that officials and supporters had to drag bodies to the side for their safety to make way for incoming.
I read somewhere that teams had been allocated time and space to practice sustained uphill
climbing at downhill ski centres.

0.9 and 1.9km is the track inside the stadium. Then there is about 4km
almost flat terrain (on Marcialonga track) and then *only* 3km of real hard
climb.
It should be 7km and not 8.1 but perhaps there will be another lap inside
the stadium.

I had forgotten about the loops in the stadium. Those are nice shots.
The climb doesn't look so steep (or long) in those, and it probably
isn't on foot, but I recall how hard it looked on skis last year.
