Default Boot Fitters - Val d'Isere

Any thoughts / advice on best place to get a pair of boots fitted in Val
d'Isere (arriving there 17th April). I had a pair of Technica TNT
Explosives (the orange ones) which recently exploded - what did I expect? -
both split almost in two while skiing in light powder in March. Now I'm
going to have to go through the painful process of having new ones fitted.

Cheers - Joe

Precision Ski, Val d'Isère, come highly recommended. I bought a pair
there myself a month back, and I was thinking just a couple of days ago
up at Méribel that they'd got it just right. Best to make an
appointment. The fitting takes time, an hour or two.

Hi,

The problem with boot fitting recomendations is that most
people do not have problem feet. What you need are recommendations
from people WITH problem feet who have achieved satisfaction.

I have problem feet and have not achieved satisfaction (with my
feet and ski boots that is) oops time to stop digging:-)

I have had personal recommendations regarding two boot shops
from very experienced ski instructors (i.e. ski
all season for season after season) with problem feet.

In no special order:-

Nevada Sports in Tignes (ONLY sell boots and socks - yes really)
Precision Ski in Val d'Isere

I had a look at www.ski-mastery.com and was coming round to the
idea that they do look fairly convincing when:------

I discovered:------
http://www.ski-mastery.com/skiwellbeing.htm

This seems to be a thing that you wear round your neck and does:-

"- Increase your mental focus
- Strengthen your resilience to the effects of stress
- Reduce effects of electromagnetic radiation (e.g. mobile
phones, computers, power lines, air travel, etc)"

It costs £100 or £200 depending on ...

Anyway, kind of blows it for me. Ok, I am not a 'believer'.

There is what I think is a lot of sense on their web site so maybe
this little slip could be forgiven.

By the way I am at my wits end with my boots so maybe I will give
them a go. I am now pretty convinced that I have:-

http://www.ski-mastery.com/masterysales.htm
"Gradual pain or numbness building up during the day"
snip
"This is more problematic then the situation previously described
because it cannot be resolved by learning how to relax. There is
either an overload of pressure on top or under the foot induced by
the boot.
snip
Individuals with high insteps are prime candidates for this problem "
"If this is your case you are most likely to oversize your boots
just to accommodate your high instep and wider feet."
snip
"You will only find a very limited number of specialists who can
do this. To my knowledge and at the time of writing it appears that
we are the only ones in the world-renowned resort of Val d'Isère who
have the technology to stretch the instep area with the Ultracam
machine."

I have previously tried throwing money at the problem and got
relieved of £400 with no resultant relief. Maybe it's time to try
again with another £400?

Tailpiece.
I have transformed my own skiing over the last few years which has
taken a fair amount of training and some minor dedication. The ski
instruction part of the site does seem a little glib for my current
model of how people learn to ski. Still what do I know.

Finally good luck. Let us know how you get on.
