Please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area but I figured one of you
fine people would be savvy on this topic.

A bunch of skydiving buddies and I from the San Francisco Bay Area did a
fair amount of snowboarding around Lake Tahoe this past year. We had a
blast on the slopes and with each other in the evenings, but for the most
part we found the nightlife to be lacking. Kirkwood had some nice rides but
it got awfully quiet at night. Squaw Valley was happening place, but
staying there regularly was about as cost prohibitive as a season pass
there.

So my question is this. Where in Tahoe can we go with nice slopes, a
kickin' nightlife with young crowds, and a relatively decent priced place to
lay our heads when we are spent.

Perhaps a better way to ask this question might be where would the people
working the slopes there go if they weren't working there.

I've heard good things about Heavenly. Anyone care to confirm?

I ride Kirkwood mostly but when we stay up for the night, we stay in
South Lake. Actually just across from the Gondloa at Heavenly.
Walking distance from the Casinos, and a few pubs...grocery store
across the street. Normally the locals stay away from the "tourist"
spots but there is always a crowd up there any given weekend...and New
Years there is a blast. They close off the street at Stateline and
there is much carousing and partying around the Casinos.

I have yet to ride Heavenly but got a good deal on accomodations there
over Xmas or so and I'll give it a shot (got free tix with lodging).
South Lake? North Shore? I think North Shore is a little more laid back
but I have only been there and stayed a couple nights. I've been to
South Lake about 15 times and it seems more city like. Sometimes
that's a good thing, but not if you're trying to "get away".

Couple of my fav's Chateau Inn and Suites. Decently cheap, good
availability, and great comfy beds. McP's Irish style pub with nightly
(I think) music on Weekends and reffle giveaways...last year I won a
free tune just for yelling loud. A block in from the main drag on
Tahkela(sp) near B of A is a great English style pub upstairs from a
fancy restaraunt. Get the bangers and mash. Best pizza...Nick and
Willy's on the corner of 50 and 89. They deliver but not sure if they
do to the Heavenly villiage area. PH# 530-544-4575 Also just across
Stateline, there's a great Japanese steak house and Tappenyaki on your
right bout 1mile up. Great wine selection and food is awesome.

That's all I got...good luck

Depending on your tolerance for travel time, Reno is an option. Mt Rose is
close by, and Sugar Bowl is an hour away. Motels are cheap, starting around
$20 a person per night.

Well I doubt the people working the slopes spend too much time in the
touristy areas around south lake but based upon your criteria...Heavenly
would give you what you want. Just expect big crowds on the slopes as well
(at least on the weekends).
All types of accomodations on south shore as well so you find whatever fits
your budget.
