Need a favor from you shop dudes (and dudettes)
Hello again! I'm back after a nice summer of mountain biking. I'll be
making my first turns tomorrow at Monarch and it's not looking very good. They only have 18" mid-mountain, but at least I'll get my legs worked in a little. I may have to do some Nordic or biking afterwards if it's not all that satisfying (which seems likely). On to my request. I need some binding adjustment charts. Any of you shop workers willing to help me out? I need all the major manufacturers, but Tyrolia and Marker in particular and the chart MUST have the current year or season on it. LMK if you might be able to help - a scan would be best but I can do fax or even snail mail if need be. Those companies will only give the charts to their dealers and I'm not one so they won't talk to me. I'll gladly compensate you however seems appropriate. Thanks in advance and hope you all have a great season (Alta is looking good - wish I was there)! |

Clearly you are heading for difficulty, since you have several misconceptions about binding adjustment in a single paragraph, above. So, before I provide a chart - DIN is a German Industrial Standard (Standard 7881, I believe,) so it's the same for all bindings; one chart suffices, although each company produces a chart, the numbers are all the same. It doesn't change from year to year or by seasons, or phases of the moon, or anything. Now the kicker - each binding has other adjustments besides the DIN release adjustment, and you need to know them; they won't be described in a chart - things like pre-load AKA forward pressure, and toe height and/or toe width adjustments on some models. Given the level of misinformation in the previous paragraph I suggest you apprentice yourself to a shop - you supply the beer - they supply the info. Here's charts and other info - However, I suggest you pay someone to set you up. http://www.terrymorse.com/ski/din.html http://home.online.no/~stigbye/skiing/equipment/bindings/binding_adjustment.html |

I'm actually all set up and am skiing telemark more these days anyway. Well maybe not so clearly this is for a piece of software that is a component of a larger rental system. It needs to calculate what I used to call DIN until being lectured by a couple of binding manufacturers (Salomon and Marker IIRC) that "it's not DIN anymore, that's just one aspect of what we call release settings." The current year is required for CYA legal reasons, and I've actually noticed some small changes here and there over the years, although they are always very similar and often identical. Matt PS skied powder today at Monarch. Yay! |
