Default Huge ski resort in Angeles Forest?

Article in the paper this morning about the local Indian tribes getting
****ed at the Sheriffs because the Sheriffs want to use part of the Red
Box ranger station area, which said Indians regard as traditionally
sacred ground. The article mentioned that the Sheriffs originally
wanted to build a full station there to take care of the problems
generated by the plan to build the biggest ski resort in the nation
somewhere up there.

Big Bear is puny compared to the real ski resorts in the US and they've
got a whole lake to use for snowmaking. I can't imagine how anybody
could make snow to cover an area larger than Mammoth, say. Wonder how
many $million we spent on EIRs and who profited therefrom.

*******s are all crooks.

These guys never build anything with their own funds and sure as
hell would question the viability of a project like this. Things like
this always wind up in court and the people proposing it are
blowhards.

You didn't give us a pointer to the newspaper story.

You're getting as bad as me.

Indeed. Hey, if Gates decides to dump the computer biz, maybe he could
pull it off out of petty cash. Utah has plenty of water and they're
glad to sell it to us. Bill could generate electricity to run the
snowguns from the flow in the pipes. Is there anybody near Redmond who
wants to try and set this up?

Pasadena, in its infinite respect for our local tribe(s), changed the
name of Oak Grove Park above Devil's Gate Dam and below JPL to the
Hahamongna something. It means "laughing waters fruitful plain" or
something like that. It appears they spelled it wrong because one of
the tribes is called the Haramokngna. It's interesting how NA tribes
spring up when it appears that there's some benefit to be gained.
Cynical? Moi? And don't get me started about casino gambling...

Pasadena Star News? No wonder I couldn't find it.

This is interesting, but I was hoping for a link to news about the big ski
area plans.

in re casino gambling: My wife is a sucker-club member at Barona Casino,
which was burned over pretty badly in the recent fire. We went over there
to see the damage, and got free lunches on her account in the buffet
restaurant.

Advice to those building homes in the backcountry: to limit fire damage,
surround your home with an 18-hole golf course and a few dozen acres of
parking lot.

Build something rational and SMALL; and rebuild it when the natural fire
cycle takes it. Repeat. Be one with nature.

That's just it: Utah does NOT have plenty of water. Five+ years of below normal
precip, plus the second least conservative water use metropolis in the nation
means that Utah may outgrow its water supply within 20 years.

Yup, Water Wars. Next, we're gonna steal water from Ogden (Weber Drainage).
The tiered water pricing needs work. I pay $50/mo for 12,000 gallons. I use
2,000 gallons. I still pay the same as a family of 4.

No meters?!

Nous aussi. Truckee has no meters - flat rate; so we get transplanted
nouveau locals (and some even not so nouveau) trying to grow English
country estate gardens with huge rolled english lawns at 6000 feet.
Bunch of idjits, you ask me.

Come to think of it, ANYONE growing a lawn west of the plains states is
an idjit, you ask me. Doesn't belong, makes no sense, sucks up water.
Especially golf course morons. Water should be used for snow making if
required, otherwise stockpiled to grow food to feed the munchies.

No water meters? This has GOT to be a joke, right? Pay the fee and
then use all you want? Added to the freaking golf courses and
stuff, that kills any chance we might let y'all tap the Great Lakes.
You want water, come visit, just like we gotta do for the mountains.
Sheesh, I can walk to Lake Michigan, and my water is metered (and
cheap; neener neener). Plus I just bricked over my entire backyard so
I wouldn't have to water it any more.

Y'all might want to spread the word that disc golf courses don't need
to be watered. Ever. Just a thought.
