Default Renting a small apartment for 5 weeks in Tignes/Val d'Isere?

Hi. I'm a long time lurker.

This year I'm planning on treating myself to a long holiday and
I've settled on five weeks in Espace Killy from mid-Jan. While
I'm travelling on my own, having informed people of my plans,
friends/partner/relatives are already jostling to book the couch
for a visit so I'm thinking of getting a small one-bedroom apartment
rather than a studio.

Given the duration, I am quite but not excessively price conscious.

I am finding the web to be frustrating for my search which has
always been the case when trying to organise holidays in France,
winter or summer. Can anyone recommend agencies I should
contact or other approaches to finding an apartment to rent for such
a period? Can I expect a discount for taking an apartment for this
length of time? Should I haggle?

Cheers!

Hi,

Hmmm.. this is a tricky one. 5 weeks from the middle of Jan will
include the first half of the French/British half-term holidays and
that makes things expensive and hard to find.

In my experience, which is of Tignes, not Val D'Is, agencies will rent
an apartment out either weekly, or for the season, nothing much in
between, and they'll rarely drop their prices unless it's last minute
and they've got an empty apartment that'll just be sitting there. Also,
getting a one bed apartment might prove tricky since for extended lets
(i.e. seasons) the nice ones go pdq.

But, enough of the bad news. People you should contact:
- might be able to help.
-
- address it to Dani. She might also be able to
help.

My blog on doing a season has some other links to a couple of other
helpful french agencies, and you may find the other info useful as
well:

An alternative might be to look to get somewhere "down in the valley"
somewhere in Bourg St Maurice or one of the villages between there and
the Espace Killy. You'll see from my blog that this isn't something I'd
choose to do however - I wanted proximity to slopes and bars, and hang
the expense.

Pete at mysnowsports.com ( http://mysnowsports.com/Content/pid=31.html)
might have some advice in this regard?

Good luck - I'd be interested to know how you get on. In fact, when you
get there just pop into TCs and ask for me.

Cheers,

Matt

Cheers Matt.

I actually read your blog a couple of months ago; it was a
deciding factor in deciding to treat myself to a long stretch
in the snow this season.

I'll try the agencies you mention.

Cheers!

Splendid - I'm a bad influence!
