Default Whistler Snow Conditions

To anyone going to Whistler this year.

If you weren't already in the know, Whistler is getting record lows of snow
this season. This is the lowest it's been in the past 30 years. Snow above
mid-mountain is pretty good and any runs below mid-mountain that are open
are a nice slurpee condition. Very slushy and very wet. I've never had to
deal with my gloves being wet except from sweat. Last week at Whistler, I
would have to take my glove liners out and fling them around to get the
water out of them from all the melted snow that was infultrating the outer
shell.

As long as you stayed above mid mountain it wasn't too bad. Blackcomb's
conditions were better than Whistler's. The second day of the three days we
were there, visibility was poor. You could only see about 20-30 feet in
front of you. It was raining and when it wasn't raining the fog was
sticking to your goggles.

7th Heaven was a dream to ride and green line on blackcomb were in good
shape despite the little snow that had fallen. The weather conditions were
great. about 40 or so for most days and undoubtably warmer as you got
closer to the base. The last day I was there I was skiing with just my
thermals, a t-shirt and ski pants. Wearing a helmet was almost too hot. I
was there from 3/7-3/9. Be prepared to get your board eaten for lunch.
There are rocks EVERYWHERE, particularly on the lower mountain runs.

-Bruce
