and muscle got damaged recently in Panorama BC.

I wear guards.

My first time trying snowboarding, I was planning on buying either an
azzpad, or wrist guard. I chose the wrist guards... BAD mistake..
smoked my ass that day RREAL bad.

I find the wrist guards more effective, and comfortable, when I strap
them over the fleece inner linings of my gloves, then the outer shell
of the glove over that. WHen they're right against my skin my hands
sweat, and having the fleece glove under the guards lessens the
pressure points of the hard plastic plates.

Wearing protection is a hard point to impress... but I feel that at
the very least, wearing the wrist guards when I was beginning made me
aware of my wrists. When I fell I knew not to try to throw my hands
out to try to stop the fall.

When I have my mits wraped up, my fists feel like battering rams... =)

On the note of PPD, the Azzpad has been my most valuable piece of
armor to date. I'm a pretty big guy, and when I fall on my ass it
_hurts_, really, really bad.. I wish I didn't have to wear it.. cuz
it looks like I have a load in my Columbias, but without the Azzpad
I'd be a cripple by now..

Ass bone, angry...

Bert..learn to do what i do...If you are about to "bite the big one"
then exhale, tighten your diaphram up(ribcage etc) and turns your
palms in towards the body with hands up and tuck your chin in...Ive
never had a wrist injury in 4 seasons(including my rookie
season)...Resist the urge to throw the hands out in front of you, at
all costs!
Thats a recipe for a broken wrist(scaffoid)...

Spiff. I had to travel fourteen hours to Panorama and it was worth every
second. If I lived in Calgary I'd be there regularly. Tons of runs, no
queuing, lovely people and a good exchange rate with the UK . On top of
that the conditions were perfect but I was there from the 24th Jan for 12
days during and after some good snow. Plenty of powder everywhere and the
runs were good every day!! They have a reasonable terrain park nd a decent
halfpipe as well as heli ski facilities.

Only a shame I did my wrist.

I've been wearing wrist guards from day one. As a result, never had a wrist
injury - and I did my fair share of falling. I also wear knee-pads and
helmet all the time. And also impact shorts when I'm planning to spend the
day in a terrain park. I may not look as cool as the other guy, but hey, I
actually use my head to make a living and a busted knee is an ugly sight as
well...

Why not have a look at their website. www.panoramaresort.com I found the
food prices to be reasaonable considering you are a bit of a captive
audience, but the exchange rate for us was very good during that visit. We
bought boards, boots and bindings, a case etc while we were there for about
half what we would have paid here for the wifes setup. The shop, Syndicate
in Invermere even dropped the boards off the day after, early as we had
trouble getting them back. They even came out with new bindings when the
ones we bought turned out to be crap (K2 lowest, plastic ratchet and a QR
that kept sticking, even after a dose of vaseline, upgraded to some Drakes).
I recommensd this shop very highly. The shop didn't sell wrist guards But
the accom was alright, if basic but plenty of hot pools certainly aid the
aching bones.

I highly reccomend checking out LEVEL gloves. They are kind of hard to
find, but they have built in wrist guards so there is very little
hassle of putting the glove on or taking them off. I'm on my second
pair and I can't tell you that they are 100% guaranteed to stop wrist
injury, but I've never had any problems, yet. I found a pair recently
at Princeton Sports in NYC.

Ive been there...Will more then likely head out there later this
season...And why would i buy gear in BC, when i can buy it for cheaper
in Alberta? We have no provincial sales tax.. 8)
I doubt any shops in Invermere would be cheaper then in Calgary...but
glad you have a good story to tell the other 'blokes'. Its good for
our crooked Govt when other tourists come to this country...haha
take care
Spiff
