It seems a lot of people locally decided to branch out since last
winter. There seem to be more skiers canoeing and doing various forms
of tri. I put in more road riding hours myself and didn't touch
rollerskis until June, and then just to do a lactate test. Do you think
it's the lack of snow, the satisfaction following the fastest Birkie in
years, or...? I suppose these things cycle.

This group has been pretty dead, so I'll fire off a topic.

Each year, I keep trying the beer gut path to faster skiing. It seems
to be working so I'll stick with it.

I haven't done much rollerskiing this year. Should I be concerned?

I haven't done much intervals this year. Should I be concerned?

What have I been doing? Cycling baby. Road cycling and one mt bike ride
back in September.

Oh yeah, I ordered new skis today. (If you don't train more, get better
equipment.)

Oh, my dream's coming true. Be still my beating heart!

I haven't rollerskied since April, and may go out once or twice this
fall. I run a little to stay in "shape" and go to the gym twice a week
to sit on the bike and watch TV.

I cut way back on beer, does that count as training in some
inverse-sort-of-way?

No intervals, no new skis, but probably a pulk as I'll be pulling my
kid around this year.

For all of those Tahoe types who have dreamed of beating me in a race
;-), this year may be your chance - if I race!

Bob,

You got one more season with me (don't turn the Five-Oh until March),
but I'd worry more about getting rid of those Schloss and Reynolds
guys, who kick my a** on a regular basis. You have 2 or 3 more years
with them, sorry. Unless you're talking about Mark Clifford or Mark
Henry, of course.

Plus, I'm thinking of going on a high-beer and golf diet like the rest
of these guys on the 'net here. Seems to work well for all of them.

* Had been rollerskiing earlier in the summer. Did a good deal of it
spring into summer. Then the heat began to lay me down, and I couldn't
marathon train And ski, so I had to drop the r-skiing after July or so.

* Still had a devil of a time training in the heat for the marathon,
but it came together in the last 2 months, and I had a 3 m 40 s PR @
Chicago last weekend. (I can't help it, I gotta spill: 2:59:00, 599th
overall, 99th in age, I am psyched)

* Maintained semi-regular core, plyos, weights, etc, now doing more of
that.

* Having a superb post-race recovery, first time not to get sick in the
days following the race. Feeling good, looking forward to r-skiing this
weekend again. Plan to quickly work up the hours on r-skis, looking
forward to that.

Enough about last summer:

* Looking forward to winter, and building on some things that I was
able to learn last winter & this summer. Need to get that Noquey
classic finish improved, and gotta knock off about 50 skiers to earn a
Birkie elite wave start, which is a long term goal. That would be fun.

* the frontrunner is still gonna be darn tough to beat. I have yet to
even come close. That would be fun too, but only if he were 100%.

I ran 45 minutes last week !! yeee haaa.

I had a killer summer - 2 marathons, lots of rollerskiing then September
hit.
Work, coaching, family, real life intruded.
