Default Conditions at Balsams/Dixville Notch, NH?

The Balsams is reporting an 8-18 inch base with 52 KM groomed. Has anyone
visited there recently that can confirm the conditions? It seems too good
to be true given the almost complete lack of snow everywhere else in New
Hampshire. It's a long drive from southeast NH, but if it is as good as
advertised, we'll make the trip.

I would think that its not looking good for my favorite event, the Great
Glen - Bretton Woods 50K, unless there is a massive snow dump in the next
ten days.

Have not been up to the Balsams.

Great Glen is virtually devoid of snow. The only skiable trail is on
the 2K of artificial snow. Could be a very monotonous 50K. Jackson
has decent snow, all things considered, but I doubt that the
rescheduled 30K will go.

I believe the Balsams report, that is a northern snow belt. However,
southern Vermont also has a snow belt. Prospect Mountain is reporting
5-15 base with 40K open and good skiing. That is the closest reliable
skiing for most southern people, over 100 days per year, year in and
year out. I skied there until May 7 a few years ago. High elevation
and northern facing slope is the key. 7 miles East of Bennington on
Rt. 9. Also good BC at Woodford State Park and other trails nearby.
BC is probably not very good in these conditions. Check out
www.prospectmountain.com.
