Felly sgrifennodd Florian Anwander :
What about Gstaad? I've always discounted Gstaad as an early option because it's not snowsure (or so I read). There is great skiing there though, especially (IMHO) to the east around Saanenmoeser and Schoenried area, if the snow is good. Look at the psite map though: http://www.gstaad.ch/winter/vbg-pano-wi-1024.jpg There's hardly anything over 2000m. Adrian -- Adrian Shaw ais@ Adran Cyfrifiadureg, Prifysgol Cymru, aber. Hi next 8 December we get married and we decide to spend our Honeymoon on the Alps.We are italian and we dont want to go in Italy because we have seen all the italian skiresort(Gardena,Badia,Campiglio,Cortina,etc).... we need a new place..a beautiful, romantic, charming place. The our ski level is Beginners-intermediate and we ski from 12/13 years. From at least 2 months im trying a place with this characteristics : - romantic - small village and alpine characteristic - snow secure on December - confortable Hotels (four stars) - other no-sky attraction (Horse Course, winter path,etc..) I have ordered brochures,i have visited many web pages of the principal skiresort in the Alps,I have read the major ski forum on the net....now i need to decide because i must book the hotel within September. My serch is concentrated to the followinf ski-resort/village (in order): 1) Lech (Austria) 2) St.Anton (Austria) 3) Saalbach (Austria) 4) Megeve (France) 5) Zermatt,SaasFee,Samnaun (Switzerland) I must choose one of this and IMHO the favourite is Lech. Many suggestion ? Other place ? Many thanks and excuse me for my english...is very bed :-) bye Andrea My vote goes to Zermatt John |

Hi Ace
What about Gstaad? Though it is quite well known it has a lot of "a beautiful, romantic, charming place". It also has a lot of 'Oh what a nice fur coat/set of diamonds/Rolls Royce' etc. And the prices match this image. I always thought the same. Until is spent a really wonderful week there three or four years ago. Large Chalet (ok for 6 persons, perfect for 4) 600 SFr/week. Good Supermarket. Prices in pubs and inns were usual swiss upper middle class standard (not(!) skiing resort inns standard). And if it is your honeymoon: I definitely would spend at least one night at the hut at the Wasserngrat. It is a little bit more expensive, but the perfect dinner at night, the rooms and the waking up on the this beautiful place is definitely worth the money! And once again about the prices in svizzerland: At least one should consider, that swiss is not really cheap, but everything you pay the money for is worth the money. I am definitely not rich. I cannot afford more than one week lift served skiing a year, I afford only a few days a year in a hotel. So I go ski touring, sleep in huts of the alpine clubs, and I do my summer holidays with a tent on campgrounds. I try to spend not much money. But I know, that if I have to spend it for holidays, I prefer to do it in svizzerland, because of the value services that I get for my money. Florian |

Oh, I agree. But hotels in Gstaad _are_ more expensive than many other Swiss resorts, including larger ones like Zermatt et al. Somewhat less than St. Moritz, I imagine, although I've not stayed in the latter. We nearly always choose to stay in medium-rate hotels, and mostly take the demi-pension option which will work out very cheaply. This was not the case when we stayed in Gstaad, where the evening meal option was around the same as eating out in a good restaurant. So we did :-) -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |
