Default more snowchains!!!

Hi,

Just rang Hertz and they want 10euro per day for the hire of snowchains! As
I only need them (if I'm unlucky) to go up the mountain and then 1 week
later down the mountain I think this is a little steep (pun intended).

I thought, therefore, that it would be cheaper to by a set on route from
Geneva to Flaine. I know of "NorAuto" who do them quite reasonably but they
don't have a location on my route. Does anyone know of a "cheap" place
between Geneva and Flaine to buy a set? I usually stop at Annemasse shopping
centre (which has a large Migros supermarket) but I can't recall any place
selling chains?

Thanks,

Sky

Bonneville motorway services sell 'em... dunno how cheap though... but
all cars rented via Hertz on the Swiss side of Geneva airport are
equipped with chains for free. We've hired Hertz cars from there twice
this year so far (Focus and Mondeo) and also last year... they always
have chains in the boot as std.

Hertz UK will almost certainly give you duff info about this if you call
them... That's what I did last year and got the same rubbish.

If you've got a more or less standard tyre size on your own car, its worth
buying a set. I got a set of Pewags for less than 50 quid delivered......
they are adjustable enough to fit quite a range of tyre sizes.....

about 70 euros depending on tire size. My local Carrefour also sells
them but has run out of stock due to the bad weather this year. Price is
agin 70E but you can get them for 40E.

I thought Hertz might say that just to get you to pay. I have a suspicion
that they be in the boot anyway (even on the french side). I rented Easycar
before and its not like them to give you something for nothing but they
always had them in the boot.

Hertz wanted 10E a day so no matter what I'd be better offf buying a set
rather than hiring for a week!

Cheers,

Sky.

We stayed at Annemasse last year going to Flaine and the supermarket in the
shopping centre right by the A40 (junction 14) motorway had snowchains.
From memory they were about 45 euro.
