AAAAARRRRGGHGHHHH!

Er, yes. April. The month that follows March.

Hi, I'm an idiot. I get my wedding date confused with May, too. How
embarrassing.

OK, now it's clear what you're talking about. Most CO areas are on
National Forest Service land, and are required to close around
mid-April, regardless of how much snow they have.

Chester Crocker's site shows that Telluride had a high year, Aspen and
Snowmass had above-average years, A-Basin and the other Summit County
areas had a below-average year, and Vail had a low year. They only got
189" total! So, it looks like your intuition is right.

But it *is* true that A-Basin closed in July.

Don't they usually?

I am not so sure how true that is. Some years ago, I recall having a
great snow year, and some areas extended their seasons. I think now
days,
the areas DON'T WANT to extend their season. As the weather gets
warmer,
the skier numbers fall. Also, most of the areas near Denver sell those
super cheap season passes. The areas are not going to be selling many
lift tix (unlike the old days). These days near Denver it is more about
the income they can get, rather than their snow depth and what the
Forest
Service will let 'em do. Hell, my Beloved Loveland closes a week before
Moms day, where in the past Moms day was closing day. That doesn't
sound like an FS issue, it sounds more like a $$ issue.

Well, back when Ullr used to stop by Colorado. The way things are going
for my Beloved Loveland this year, I don't think there will be a need
to hang my stocking this year as I don't think HE will be passing
through
CO this year either.
