Anyone know what's up with OLN and the World Cup this year? I know that
the US stuff is going to be on the majors (some of it, at least; here's
hoping they don't screw up too bad), but OLN is not showing any World
Cup racing on their schedule. Is this not happening???

They'd better be. I subscribed for one reason and one reason only - FIS
World Cup. If they aren't going to carry it I'm going to be really ****ed.
I was away over the holiday weekend and didn't see if they carried the
events in Aspen last weekend, but according to the US Ski Team's TV
schedule (
http://www.ussa.org/PublishingFolder/255.htm) OLN is supposed to
be carrying events every weekend from 11/26/04 until 3/6/06, with a few
more towards the end of March.

If they did show events this past weekend, I _will_ be ****ed, because
a)ABC (or some other network) is supposed to be showing the Aspen
Winternational and Birds of Prey next weekend, so b)OLN would not have
been showing the Winternational last weekend, and therefore c)if OLN
showed anything it would have been the men's speed events from Lake
Louise, which d)were the races that BODE WON. And if they showed those
races, and DIDN'T put it on their schedule, and I missed taping it, I am
going to murder them a whole lot.

I sent the sonsabastiches an email which they didn't answer. I'm
getting irritated. These are some great races that the merkin public is
missing, damn it all! You can just bet the Euros got to see it.

There listings have often been inaccurate both on their web site and on the
on screen display of both DirecTV and Dish Network. Can't tell you how many
times I've recorded the rodeo, or some guy out hunting with his dog when on
screen listing said there was supposed to be skiing on.

You're right Mary, we have it all. At least in Finland we have almost
full coverage on our national channels 2 and 3. Especially after
Kalle's and Tanja's success the coverage on channel 3 has increased
very much, at least all tech events are covered.

In addition eurosport (via cable or satellite) covers almost all
races. British Eurosport is extremely good with superb commentators,
Nick Fellows and John Clark. I used to have it before the channel 3/3+
coverage got better.

It's very surprising to hear that tv coverage is so bad in the
states..Isn't alpine skiing a popular sport in the states?

BTW I am an active lurker in the RMM pages, great masters activity, I
must say.

Sure hope it gets better for you.

Ciao,

Tommi Antila

AAGH! STOP! AAGH!

I wish I wish I WISH we got Eurosport here.

It's reasonably popular as a _participant_ sport, very unpopular as a
_spectator_ sport. There's a big difference in the US between sports
that people do, and sports that they watch.

must say.

That bunch! They drag me through the gates every time I go out there to
visit my brother. What a crowd.

Rocky Mountain Masters. It's a regional division of the USSA Masters
ski racing organization. I used to publish a column in their
newsletter. Nowadays my rantings on World Cup ski racing can be found
on Sportsfilter, where I just started writing a column called The White
Circus (http://www.sportsfilter.com/columns.cfm).

Will you be going to the criterium in April at Sun Valley? I wish I could,
but I will have run out of leave

Nope. I haven't been to any of the nationals/internationals, and I'm
sure not to this year -- in fact, I'm not even entered in any races as
of now. The NE Masters schedule is FUBAR, and I have to work a lot of
weekends anyway. If I do race, it'll probably be in CO -- my brother's
trying to talk me into doing the Cooper downhill, which would be, um, an
experience.
