Default Need to find insurance for xc coaches

Hi Everyone,

My insurance company (K&K) just dropped coverage for cross-country
skiing and so I need to find a new company that will cover accidents and
liability for coaching and camps. Does anyone have any recommendations for
me? Previously, I held a liability/accident policy for myself as a "fitness
instructor" for when I was working as a coach on my own and then another
policy that covered ski camps.

Thanks for any advice,

-Nathan

I found this company that specializes in Bike clubs and ski clubs and
events. I've been meaning to use them for my club but have been
running unprotected instead. Here's the contact info and a message I
got from them

Our Bicycle Club Insurance program will work. We insure many clubs that
offer both a cycling and cross country skiing activities.

Subject: USA Cycling Insurance

I was looking at the USA Cycling web site today and came across the
info on
insurance. I'm looking for insurance for the club that I direct. We
don't
race, but we get together to train weekly year around. In the winter
months
we offer Cross Country Skiing instruction. The rest of the year we get
together to workout. The instruction is much more formal during the
skiing
period. The cycling period is more casual without any real
instruction,
just leading training rides. I was wondering if insurance would be
available to a club like mine. We used to get insurance through a XC
ski
organization but that folded. Do you have any requirements on how
member
clubs are structured or what they do? How would we join? Would this
apply
to a non-racing club? Any information you can provide would be
appreciated.

Nathan-

I'm the Treasurer on the Duluth XC Ski Club. We shopped around for club
insurance and ran into this McKay Insurance outfit. They had
competitive prices, but we elected to go with a local insurance Agency
in Duluth; buy local kind of thing. My understanding is that McKay got
started insuring snowmobile clubs and branched into XC skiing. Not sure
how great that would've been.

Also, found a guy in MT that specializes in XC skiing insurance. It
seemed to be more geared to a xc ski area/lodge vs. a club or
individual. If you look on the CCSA website:
http://www.xcski.org/ski_area_servic...try_serv.shtml
they list two insurance outfits. One is the MT guy.

AS a club, we elected to go with a local outfit figuring they'd know
more about our state laws and their prices were competitive. They
adapted to what we needed as a club no problem, even without specific
"ski smarts."

Good luck.
