Also Sprach Mary Malmros : I got cut off in traffic by someone with a yellow-ribbon bumper sticker, but I don't go on a hate campaign against the displayers of yellow-ribbon bumper stickers. It's called being a grownup. Really? Because I hate, literally, with a passion, those yellow-ribbon bumper stickers. Well, yeah, but...separate issue. I don't hate 'em cuz one of 'em cut me off in traffic ;-) -- Mary Malmros Some days you're the windshield, other days you're the bug. |

Cute story however I must ask: WHY do you hate snowboarders?!? Do you think skiers are better people than snowboarders? I'm not a snowboarder but I don't "hate'em", why would I? I really don't understand this attitude... It's not like there's a big threat that all skiers are going to be overtaken by the big bad snowboarding population!! They are there...we are there...and that's it! Get over it! In my opinion we're lucky to have snowboarders to share the hills with. Believe it or not, skiing is NOT enjoyed by everyone on the planet and people have differing opinions on what is fun and what is not. The one thing we both have in common as skiers and snowboarders is that we both need a hill to practice our sport, and in order to keep the ski resorts alive for us skiers, we need clients. The introduction of snowboarding has been the only savior for the smaller struggling ski hills in the past ten years...even with the introduction of snowboarding the hills in my region have been slowly closing one by one due to lack of participation, it's depressing! Snowboarding is fresh and young and it attracts people to participate in winter sport. (which again....where is the bad part?) From an economic point of view it is an aid to skiers who enjoy local areas and smaller resorts. It does no harm to skiers, if anything we are lucky to have snowboarders to add to our playground. (and telling me reasons such as chair lift stories or damaging the hill with the board...beleive me, IT GOES BOTH WAYS! Why do think it's called a "snowplow") So why again? There are several problems with snowboarders. For one, they tend to sideslip all the way down a trail that's beyond their ability to ride just so they can say they "got down it". That ruins the snow for skiers and riders who can ski/ride it properly. I'd say at least 50% of the boarders I see going down a black trail at my local hill are side slipping and scraping it down to bare ice. Second is an attitude that is prevalent amongst most boarders of not caring about the skier's code or other people's safety. I can't tell you how many times I've watch boarders blasting through an area clearly marked for "slow skiing". My wife is a slow skier and has been plowed into numerous times by out of control boarders, yet not once in 7 years by a skier. And then they have the nerve to blame her when they hit her from behind. Excuse me but the skiers code has always stated that you must be skiing (or riding) in *complete* control and avoid skiers that are below you. If you can't avoid them, you are boarder/skiing too fast for your abilities. BTW this problem seems to be isolated to young male boarders between about the ages of 16 and 21. The younger and older seem to be more considerate of others. |

Who's "she?" I didn't know "Jeff" was a "she?" Tres Cool. BTW, I hate boarding, not boarders. Wusses would be innocuous if they'd stay on the groomed and in the park and quit wrecking the snow. But they won't; they insist on snowplowing down the fresh and mashing the soft, just because they can't ride an edge on steep and deep. |

You seem to be blessed with unusually competent boarders. This winter I've seen about one boarder per day linking carved turns -- and what these carvers do looks so different from the typical boarder that you can spot them from hundreds of yards away. It's like a completely different sport. -- Bill Griffiths "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no such thing as justice." Hobbes |

You are missing the point.
The beauty of America is that everyone has the right to disagree. Perhaps this passage from the movie "The American President" would explain it better than I can: Everybody knows America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating, at the top of his lungs, that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. .....Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free. Chas "JQ" wrote in message ... We're all equally in this together: I always found it weird to support something you disagreed with. Well stated. One glaring difference I have noticed is the lack of courtesy
and the plowing of snow off the center of the trail instead of being on edge. I rarely see a skier sideslipping down a slope. AND if sideslipping is done correctly, no snow is displaced.
