Default OT : Deerflies and Camping this Summer

Anyone else in the Western US this summer notice the absolute insane
amount of deerflies this summer ? Moist spring I guess is the culprit,
but jeez, what a mess. No amount of DEET could deter them. Muy
annoying.

ObThreadMeld: Utah is very bad this year. I just got back from four
days in the High Uintas and it was hotter and had more bugs than I've
seen in many years. You know it's bad when they hang out on the DEET
bottle. Even with all the bugs, it was so hot, the fish were too lazy
to jump. They are even bad in the Wasatch at my house. And that is
rather unusual.

I hear Vail is nice.

Yeah I was up at Whitney Reservoir in the Uintas off Rt. 150 from the
north end. Lazy trout, super hot weather and bugs that just ate you
alive. No fun at all...almost felt like sticking my sleeping bag
downwind of the firepit to get in the smoke.

We dont have a Deerfly in the UK, only a tame relative called a horsefly.
Doing a Google I found http://tinyurl.co.uk/wagb
So perhaps getting multiple bites could prevent a thrombosis !
