Default graphite over?

I was reading some stuff on the xcottawa website and in cold
conditions they recommend putting a hard graphite wax over a mid-to
-low temp wax as the base, then wax of the day and perhaps some flouro
or cold powder.

In contrast, the Sierra Nordic website says that to get a hard
graphite wax to hold onto the ski, it should be applied over a very
soft wax. And then a second layer of graphite is applied, I guess to
harden up the base some more.

The xcottawa approach intrigues me but I haven't tried it yet -- any
thoughts on this?
