Default Flatboarding converts?

Superior new techniques/equipment gather quickly a following that
quite often snowballs into new trends or even sports. Since this has
not (to my knowledge) happened yet, can we assume that flatboarding
techniques do not survive in the evolutionary competition of viable
techniques?
