OT- Bicycle tour in Norden 2002
A bit off-topic, but there is some snow and
it happens in Nordic countries! I was on a bicycle tour in Norway and Sweden in 2002 and still haven't "published" the story! I'd thought I'd start by digitizing some of my 35 mm slides. I've started with the "high" point of the tour, the day I climbed Gausta (elev about 1900m) near Rjukan, Telemark. I started near Lake Tinn (200 m), cycled to the plateau (1100m) and then walked to the top. Gausta is one of the most popular day hikes in Norway. Gausta is indeed very nice, it seems you weren't lucky enough to get a nice clear day at the top, if/when you do, you can see major parts of southern Norway from there! there is actually a lift inside that mountain going almost all the way
from bottom to top. now open to tourists. David Dermott wrote: A bit off-topic, but there is some snow and it happens in Nordic countries! There are some nice photos of Gausta and the area, in the photo-diary
on this ski-lodge website: http://www.kvitaavatn.dk/ Click on "Her og nu" for the diary. Some people have used the the lift in order to ski down. They are still ski-ing. Alex |

I considered myself lucky to be able to see ANYTHING that day! Just as I was going along the final edge past the hut and tower, a thick cloud layer descended and visibility went to near zero, except on the lee side (east) of the mountain. The next 2 days were rain and zero visibility. A lot of my 4 week bike trip was wet and cold. I found this picture of Gausta as seen from a tower in Nordmarka: http://www.turweb.net/bilder_gausta.htm The same people have pictures from Gausta on a clearer day: http://www.turweb.net/gausta.htm They also have a lot of photos and articles (some in English) about skiing, walking and canoeing in Nordmarka: http://www.turweb.net/eng_about_turweb.htm -- David Dermott , Wolfville Ridge, Nova Scotia, Canada email: WWW pages: http://www.dermott.ca/index.html |
