Any other ideas? The area is full of armpit motels that cater to the snowmobiler/ATV/fishing/hunting crowd, but they're inexpensive and well-located. Try www.harrislodging,com, www.brendasmotel.com, www.portlodge.com, www.portlyanglerlodge.com, among others. -- I'm a little leery of the armpit factor. |

Harris Lodging is the inexpensive option. The 1880 House B&B is nicer
and still reasonable. A google search for each will provide details. |

I stayed at the 1880 house last year, it is a big old Victorian place, not too fancy, lots of rooms. It is in Pulaski, which also has some name brand motels. Also there is a diner on the main street of Pulaski that has great french fries! The Winona Forest is about 15 miles away (maybe closer), has some wide trails and many narrow hiking/ski trails. It is very beautiful. I had quite a bit of trouble finding the entrance/parking areas on the local roads. Many races are held there, so it is often groomed. gr |

They had all the 1950's comfort food: mac and cheese, turkey and gravy, etc.! gr |
