Default Jay T Solves His Birkie Problems

Here are the steps I need to follow to ski faster in the American
Birkebeiner.

1) Lose a few pounds

Jay

That will solve my problem as well, thanks for putting it in such
simple terms. Also, congrats on finishing your 20th Birkie.

It's one thing to _Identify_ the problem. It's a whole different thing
to _solve_ the problem.

I think that for a lot of us solving the problem invloves the
eliminating one, life-sustaining beverage - BEER.

Hey Bruce Fiedler! Didn't you finish your 20th Birkie this year too?

I made a mental list afterwards, even tho this was my fastest Korte
classic relative to the winners. Working backwards..

1) Arrive an hour before wave time rather than 30 mins, so I can warm
up somewhat properly
2) Get more than 4 hours sleep the night before (nights before!)
3) Visit the demo area first for my day-before ski, rather than
afterwards
4) Pass on my City of Lakes role to someone else so that I don't lose
two weeks of skiing
5) Lose 4-5 kg (those bagels)

Thinking a lot about striding the whole thing next year.

Go for it, I did a couple of years ago and it was smooth even from wave
5. However, I don't remember crossing the lake and skiing up the main
street (what's the elevation gain up that street, 400 ft? 500 ft?
more?).

It's also a lot easier to "podium" striding - yes, I actually have an
age-grouper 2nd (maybe 3rd) place plaque and "winner's" Birkie fleece -
go figure
