Default Naxo vs. Fritschi Freeride ?

What's the general opinion out there on these two bindings? Which is
sturdier? smoother, etc?

Naxo is too new for there to be a "general opinion". You m ight check
this out if you haven't seen it:

I have Freeride. Wife has Naxo.
Both are great. Naxo is new to US this year, but used last year in
Europe. Not quite as bomber as Freeride (but still very tough), but
better skinning motion.
Fear with Naxo is if you fall while in touring mode, you could bend
the pivot mechanism.
Choice depends on your weight and style, and how much you skin.
I like them both, but don't skin that much (and have real AT boots
which flex and tour nicely) so I prefer Freeride.
If you use alpine boots, Naxo is easier to skin with.

Only the prototypes of the Naxo were tested last year in Europe, so
the current version is new to everywhere. (Which I suppose explains
the frequent breaks in the heel piece lever - fortunately not a
crippling break, but definitely something that would have been fixed
after a season of use had the current version already had a season of
use.)

I have the same fear with Frischi binding. You would not
want to put too much torque into the toe while the
heals are free.
