Lake Placid Loppet [was: Birkie Hill Study]

A whole week ahead of time? Isn't that just a bit premature?
I suppose they probably have their reasons though.

There's just not enough snow and it would take a major snow dump to get
it going in time. I think there will be an inch every few days for the
next week or so, but they need much more to safely run the race.

It's sort of nice to know so early so alternate plans can be made. Last
year they didn't postpone (due to severe cold) till the Thursday before
the race, and I remember a friend of mine griping about the hours it
took him to get CH4 or something like that into his skis. He called me
up just as he finished his skis and I gave him the news...

I'm actually thinking of getting adventurous and flying somewhere for a
race (though I hate to travel far). Maybe the Pepsi Challenge in
Minnesota. Oh, I just looked at the temperature there at the moment.
That's got to be some sort of conversion error or something...
