It must be. I read it in the paper:

I've been skiing since before I could walk (no reallly) and have never hurt
myself (touch wood). I think hurting yourself is optional, not mandatory.

Well, you're in the minority. Just about everybody I know who skis
regularly has broken, strained, sprained, snapped, or dislocated
something at some point in their career. No, it's not inevitable, but
odds are something will happen eventually.

Anyway, that's my unscientific anecdotal view of things. But maybe I
hang out with a bunch of accident-prone klutzes.

Which is why I get so furious and others thinking it's OK to hurt ME so long
as it's "an accident".

Many things described as "accidents" are statistical near-centainties
that just take a while to actually happen. Ski out of control on a
regular basis and eventually you'll whack somebody. That's not really
an accident.

It depends how you do it.
I know cyclists who never fall, but they never grin with delight either.
I also know a few idiots who never fall because they ride so fast they
haven't time to.
And one or two who just have a better sense of balance than most.

Then there's the rest of us - mud, sweat, jokes and beer.

Sure. Got a bridge you'd like to sell us?

My parents propped me up in some boots, put them on skis, and slid me along
in them. The boots covered my whole legs pretty well. They even took photos.

Got any more dumb statements...actually that was a dumb question, wasn't it.

Exactly. There's a time and a place for pushing the envelope, and it's not
around other people. If you *might* crash or lose control, dial it down a
bit rather than smashing in to someone. I don't understand why some people
think skiing is potentially a contact sport.

the last two, maybe, but after you rub some dirt in it so it will scar
nicely.

And I'm sure they were great photos. OTOH, if that's skiing before you
could walk, I suppose I was flying an airplane before I could walk.

(I was a precocious child...)

There are no dumb questions, just dumb questioners. I was skiing since
before four of my grandspawn were born, so there!

I still have dim memories of winning my first slalom race on the way
to the ova. Only room for one sperm on that podium.

What can I say, it was the sixties. Those kind of turns were in fashion.
