Default Down Jacket waterproofing

I have a down jacket that I am thinking of spring with Techtron DWR
(Durable Water Repellent). I was actually thinking of spraying both the
indside (to protect against sweat) and the outside (to protect against
snow). The primary use of the jacket is a belay jacket over the top of
everything else.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with that idea?????

_ I haven't been very impressed with the Techtron DWR spray,
mostly it just makes your gear smell bad and does not last very
long. I've been a lot more impressed with NikWax, I have a NF
Nuptse down jacket that I treated with the Nikwax down wash and
then down proof and I've noticed the following.

1. The jacket lost a little loft, not much, about as much as
you'd expect after a year of use.

2. The jacket stays much cleaner.

3. It's more water resistant. The jacket will survive a light
rain with little or no soaking in. It is in no way waterproof.

_ All in all, I'm not sure it's worth the effort. It makes
a difference it wet snow, but all it does is delay the
time until soak thru. Perhaps the best benefit is that the
jacket stays cleaner. Clean gear works better.
