Default Skiing at Innsbruck

St. Anton's gets much more snow than the resorts at Innsbruck. It's about
an hour away. And it's big. If you get a chance, also ski at Lech and Zurs
which are right around the corner from St. Anton's. I've heard you can ski
from St. Anton's to Lech and Zurs but a guide is recommended.

I have a trip planned to Innsbruck the first of Dec. Has anyone skied

there
and have any suggestions. What about St. Antons. It seems to be close by.
Was wondering if it is the better place to ski, and how easy is it to get

to
if I am staying in Innsbruck? How realiable is snow the first of Dec?

The mountains around Innsbruck are much lower than the western Austria
resorts (Lech, Zurs, St Anton).. and you're going pretty early on in the
season.. I was considering Austria this year over New Years, however, after
talking to some people they suggested I could get iffy snow conditions in
the innsbruck resorts so I decided against it.. so I'd have to say you're
taking a big chance going in early December..

The mountains may be lower, but the valleys are also lower so there is
just as much vertical. Also, the night life is better in Innsbruck.

I don't think the concern was about the vertical (which is the same in
December as it is in February) but the snowfall (which is not).

I've skiied there twice in the spring; one year wound up being great in
March with new dumps almost every other day - the only problem was that
they hadn't had snow before that week in ages, so only the glacier at
the top (Stubai) was open; the other year was a bit earlier, most of the
resorts were still open, but no new snow for the time - things were
getting pretty cruddy and melty. I've heard good things about St.
Antons, but for some reason we didn't take the bus over there.

Since you're going early, you might be limited to Stubai, which has lots
of terrain, but a lot of it serviced by surface lifts, so be prepared
for the burn!
